Mountain biking is another great way to get to see parts of the countryside off the beaten track. Here in Lincolnshire we are not blessed with many hills but have a good variety of bridleways that link up through the county, many often either old Roman roads or droving trails that used to take the animals to market to make some good routes.
Rides are organised further a field when hills are needed every couple of months. The Peak District National Park is only two hours away which opens up some of the best trail in the United Kingdom and provides a good test of climbing and downhill skills.
Within an hour of Lincoln is the trail centre of Sherwood Pines located in Nottinghamshire. This provides some fast flowing fun on routes up to about 15km. Grades from red to a family route provide for all, with good facilities including a cafe and bike shop.
Trail centres further a field include Dalby Forest and Cannock Chase. Both are about just over a two hour drive from Lincoln. Dalby up in Yorkshire providing a more natural feel with a 34km red route and Cannock in the Midlands been a bit more man made with burms/jumps on either Follow The Dog or Monkey Trail routes.
Please watch out for rides either on the club calendar or on our facebook page. A couple of weeks notice is normally given to give people chance to get organised. Cafe stops are compulsory either mid ride or at the end to review the heroics of skids, near misses, saves and for your tales of how you nailed that four foot drop off to begin.
